Used vehicle valuation

For each year after its model year, SRI takes 20% of a vehicle’s original valuation off, down to 10%. Pick yours to see its SRI valuation and annual tax, year by year. There is data for versions sold new since 2017.

The version is the description on the registration. If yours is missing, its model year is before 2017 or it wasn’t sold new since then.

Does it match SRI?

81%

Of 35,195 cases in the data where SRI registered new units in the year after their model year (version, model year and month), in 81% their most common valuation is exactly the 80% the rule gives, to the cent. In the rest, SRI took another value as the original, often the price of a newer model year.

The later steps hold too: for units SRI registered 2 to 6 years after their model year (outside the site’s new-vehicle figures), the rule gives the exact valuation for 81% to 85% of versions in each year. Measured on 6 November 2026.
